A new EU Directive is in place for ALL Spanish Airports

In compliance with Regulation (EC) No. 1107/206 of the European Parliament, starting July 26th 2008, ALL European Airports will offer assistance services for passengers with reduced mobility.

The European Coomunity measure represents a significant social advance for disabled persons and for this reason all the necessary financial, material and human resources have been provided to make it possible for every Spanish Airport to render a quality service guaranteeing that all people can enjoy airport transport anywhere in Europe, regardless of their disability.

Please Note: Any company that charges for this service is misleading customers as this service is FREE of CHARGE.

This service is available to all who have a disability whether permanent or temporarily, it can also be used by the elderly or anybody who has problems with walking distances.

You do not have to be booked with a tour operator to receive this service and you do not have to be a tourist, it is FREE to all who use the Airport

Thanks for that el - you have to pre-book, don't you - is it 24 hours ahead of time ... in other words, you might not be guaranteed the service if you just turn up at one of the assembly points in the airport

No you do not have to prebook. To the Far left of the Departure Hall Entrance there is an assembly point with a Button Push that links you straight through to their offices (which are always manned) Just Press the Button and you will be assisted.

I have had a meeting with the operators and airport and they are now looking to relocate this point to make it more visible and accessible and in the near future they are also looking to install points in the car parks along with the possibility of having vehicles collect departing passengers in and around the departures area.

Watch this space, I will let you know whats happening as soon as I hear more.
