Question Does anyone know the laws regarding walking dogs in Tenerife?

Can anyone help me? I have walked my dog in various places around Tenerife for several years now and never had any problems. I have recently moved and was walking my dog around one of the local golf courses, off the lead, she is well trained & it was about 9.30 at night so no golfers!! However, another dog was in a garden yapping for England at us so mine was barking back. I got my dog to sit after a couple of minutes of barking furiously at each other, apologised to the owner who was in the garden. I assumed that would have been ok but apparently not. She starting shouting at me that Spanish Law requires dogs to be on a lead at ALL times. Is this correct because if so, I fear I may have broken the law rather a lot over the last few years

Apparently this is correct... in a public or communal area.

Thanks

Thanks for info. I will consider myself told!

YoungGolfers (and all golfers!) we walk up the cart path, not up the fairway and I most definately pick anything my dog does. Hope that puts your mind at rest

Wink

Because it´s safer than clambering over rocks and rubble on unlit wasteground. I jog so the dog runs round somewhere near me. Having a lead on whilst jogging has proven pretty dangerous in the past when the dog decides to stop & sniff or change direction completely (or yanks your arm out of its socket when some yappy dog starts barking

Laws regarding walking dogs

If there are laws about walking dogs then its about time they are enforced.

I am sick to death of the dogs poo everywhere & the amount of dogs off leads; do the owners not realise how dangerous it can be for other walkers as well as car drivers, if the dog runs in the road.

In a park it is not so bad, but in built up areas I think it is dangerous. It doesn't take much to make a dog 'turn' on someone or another dog. I have seen it a couple of times & it is frightening.

It's about time Tenerife did something about enforcing owners to pick up after their dogs; it is very rare to see it happen.

Sorry if this offends, but it needed saying.

I agree your right its disgusting poo everywhere but when you speak to owners of dogs what do they all say i pick my poo up well someone is not,i had a dog 3 doors up from me nearly everyday pooing in my front garden because the owner just left open her front door and let the dog out to do its business without a care for anyone eles its lazy, anyway i have not had any mess for 3 months now but only due to the fact i picked it up went to her front door and put it on her door mat,not nice i know but its not nice when you have two very young children who cant play in the garden.
i know there is a lot of good owners here in tenerife but half as many too who like the idea of having the dog but cant be botherd to look after them.

KEEP OFF the golf course and the tracts round about it, firstly here they use "dirty Water" sprayed on all grass areas and use many spray pesticides and insecticides also thrown on the areas with scant regard to where is rat and mouse bait which if eaten by your dog will kill it.

So for the health of your dog just Keep Off and it will be private land
