I've recently had a lot of people in the shop saying that their travel reps are advising them not to book trips from excursion shops because the excursion operators don't insure them.

They are also advising them not to hire scooters, buggys etc. for the same reason.

As far as I can see this is a scare tactic to get them to book their over priced trips instead.

But just to clarify. Does anyone know what insurances are required by excursion operators?

Just so I can put the record straight with clients.

I used to be a holiday rep and this was one of the things we ere taught to say in our "speaches", I wasn't until I started working for a so called "bucket shop" that I realised what a load of s***e this is

The companies that we use in our shop all have to have a Viajes licence to operate....as to the insurance for the holiday company, clients would have to check their insurance policies to see what they are NOT covered for. In my experience this can differ between companies so some may not cover sports such as Quads/watersports/paragliding, but the people that operate these excursion have to have adequate insurance anyway
