Morbid fascination?

There's a guy outside my office in Puerto Santiago threatening to jump off the wall and plunge into Balcon de los Gigantes at the moment. The police and ambulance service are here in force.

It's extremely upsetting that someone should get into a state like that, but what amazes me is the number of people standing and watching. Are they hoping for a good or a bad result?

Opinions?

Don't interrupt me when I'm ignoring you!

I'd love to see things from your point of view but I can't get my head that far up my bum.

I like the 7 deadly sins - it's a good check list!

I would like to think that people are hoping for a good outcome. However I bet there are some people that would stay around just for a look if he did jump.

There was two people who were found at the bottom of the cliffs in my village yesterday. The bloke was dead and the women seriously injured. They think it was a suicide pack. I cant imagine what goes through peoples heads when they get desperate enough to do that.....

I had a similar experience some years ago when a friend´s son died out on one of the boats in the harbour, it was an accident through inhaling fumes, of course the situation of the boat inthe harbour caused a huge crowd to gather, his mother went out to the boat to check on the situation, an ambulance was called, but the boy´s body was kept in an open ambulance on the harbour for hours, while the police tried to determine what had happened and how. The crowd just got bigger and bigger, and the poor mother couldn´t cope she was faced with the fact that she had lost her son and the theatre it was providing for the jackals of residents and tourists alike who were queing for a better view.

As a race we are sometimes a sad bunch!!!

Think most people wont want him to jump but its just human nature to watch, a bit like Motor racing or bike racing or boxing, deep down people dont want to miss the morbid excitement of something dreadful that may happen ....

I think it human nature to stop and watch, sometimes its a natural reaction to not wanting to miss out on anything.

Whilst this is distressing in the extreme for relatives and friends I believe its a natural reaction. You only have to see the problems caused by 'rubber necking' on the motorways when there has been an incident.

As an experiment, the next time your out (with a few mates) in your local square or anywhere outside that is busy, stop. look into the air and start to point at nothing in particular, you will be amazed how many people stop and join in. As I said, its human nature.

All that said, it doesn't help the poor soul who is stood on the wall. I hope they manage to talk him down and it all ends well.

raeding the metro on the way into work and there are 7 iraquis on a tower in cyprus saying they will all jump if they dont get a UK passport. Apparantly they were detained in cyprus under terrorism rules. PC crowd will probably give them a new house too... I think a shove in the direction is needed in this case
