It's now my mission to sort them out. I've asked for advice and it seems that I have to use a wire brush to scrape off the rusty bits before giving them a coat of 'minio hierro, rojo'. Then it's ok to paint them with white heraldite.
If anyone knows of a more simple plan please let me know. | some metals when they react with any type of moisture and air will rust. If items are painted them the air will still permiate even the smallest crack, bearing in mind that paint will harden and often expands with the heat and then contracts with the cold which inturn makes it brittle and then cracks allowing air to penetrate. __________________

My gates go rusty because my dog keeps marking his territory to tell all his pals where he lives!!!!!
when did you last paint them? did you do the job properly? no ? do the preparation i.e.down to the bare metal then the "red lead" and finally any colour you like at least two coats should be no probs then until the next time
