A 19 year old friend died in Tenerife after taking drugs, why do they do it?
As I've said in another thread, a good friend of mine died yesterday due to some dodgy drug he took in the South of Tenerife.
I can't name him as his parents aren't even here to collect his body yet and out of respect etc etc I have to keep stum. But I'm genuinely devestated
At the age of 37 I'm well past experimenting with this stuff but I really want to know what makes kids do this?
He had his whole life in front of him. he was 19. He had a good (ish) job in Colon PR ing for his Step Uncles bar where he was well looked after.
I just don't get it. And if I ever get hold of the dealer, god only can help them. Sorry for the rant. Needed to be done.
Sleep well Ross, we will NEVER forget you!!!!!

If this is the same guy I just heard about, I believe it was a heart attack, which yes of course could have been instigated through drugs.
Its awful, but not sure if all rumours are true. And, yes, people that young can have heart attacks.
I do not condone drugs in any shape or form and I too cannot understand what would make anyone even want to try tablets. I mean, its just russian roulette isn't it.
So so sad.................

stevem its very sad about your young pal and my thoughts are with his parents, its every parents worse nightmare, and if you get your kids through a certain age without any trouble with drugs your one of the lucky ones. But you said yourself that you are way past all the experiments of that stuff, but you must of tried it so you must know what makes young ones take things like that, obviously you were young then. i myself think its peer pressure and feel sorry for the young ones of today. its such a tragic thing to happen. my sincere condolences are with all who knew him.

Thats the thing though Dede. I didn't! I wouldn't dare use anything if I didn't know the origin. The odd smoke yes, but never something chemical. I guess I'm a prude, but that's the way it is.

So sorry to hear that yet another young life has been lost through drugs.I have a younger brother that got hooked and he tried every thing to get back off but he said it was like a constant buzz, but he managed to get on a detox course and thankfully i now have my brother back.If drug dealers get caught they should be given a lethal dose of the stuff they pedal.

I am so sorry that you have lost your friend...yet again these mood altering drugs have taken another life...I get so angry at the drugs...(including alcohol)
Los Cristanos must be in mourning today...as the reality sets in...
You asked why...something you may never know....and I am guessing as your posts suggests that his heart stopped, so maybe it was cocaine.
When I work with recovering addicts they all say the same thing...the high is so fantastic that is all they can obsess about is how to get the next one.
There never seems to be a similar thread to "Why" they started to use it. When to most people it just all seems so sensless....like playing russian roulette...the thrill adds to it all....the secrecy...being in the "In" Club...
All types of personalities become addicted so we can'nt say he had low self esteem..(although this can be an additional factor the first time he used) or it was peer pressure etc, etc. But Coke is one of the most powerful drugs in the universe..once tried the addiction kicks in.
What we do know is that the brain changes so much that all rashonality dissappears and the drug (or reminence of it) becomes dominant. With alcohol and hash it takes longer for this to occur.
When a person takes cocaine, it causes a rush. There is between one or two minutes of intense pleasure. This is followed by five to 8 minutes of euphoria, then as the high comes down, an overwhelming urge for more, which may last for a day. But the memory becomes dominant yet again. When a user is between cocaine doses or halts usage, the opposite effects occur. The user is depressed and tired.
Although main hypothesis as to why cocaine is so pleasurable, is that it alters levels of dopamine, norepinephrine, and seratonin, they recon that cocaine effects approximately 90 different parts of the brain.
Scientists are working furiously for a way to combat cocaine addiction. However, even if they do identify all of the factors that cause addiction, they are still faced with the dilemma of how exactly to stop the addiction. New hope to end cocaine addiction lies in experimental drugs, such as one that is used to treat epilepsy and holistic approaches such as acupuncture.
Again I am so sad for you I hope this helps.
However little can be said to remove the pain and senselessness of the death of your friend...keep ranting..
Love to his family and friends....So Young...too young...Goodbye Talking Moon XXX
