Why are English newspapers in Tenerife such a rip off?

Years ago the standard answer to the extra cost was because they had to come air mail from the UK but now most of them are printed in Spain/Tenerife!
So how come the price doesnt come down now to the equivalent of a Spanish daily paper?
Also Sunday papers are a lot extra again, but no supplements.

I think it comes down to the fact that if the papers were say just 1 euro each not many more people would buy it. You either want it or you don´t. So they may as well charge 2e.

I hardly ever buy them. Always makes me laugh when I go into a shop to but the "Marca" (Spanish football paper) and they say to me in English "1 euro please"

As Kathml said they have a smaller circulation and printing costs are very expensive in the Canary Islands. Most newspapers in the UK have their own printers, thus they can keep costs to a minimum. The distribution company's take 20 per cent of the sold cover price

You think you have it bad, try to buy an Irish Paper, twice the cost of an English one.

And unlike in the UK where you can stand in WH Smiths or the supermarkets and pick them up and stand for hours reading them for free ...Don't try it in Tenerife
