Hi weebengal
Had the same problem with mine. however, my adsl is not with telefonica, its with direct telecom. I rang them and they talked me through the process. Still didn't work so took the router back. they gave me another and bingo, problem solved.
I know this isn't helping you one bit, but it could be re-assuring to know that the fault could be with the router and not you personally. I am sure you will soon be receiving more constructive help today though. good luck.

me aalways had broad band back home so dont know much about adsl, there is a phone socket and a double jack comes out of it one goes to the phone and the other goes to the router
from the router it goes into my laptop, its the same socket i used when i was using broadband in fact its the only socket it will go in to obvously i was away working and it was the wife who was in ,he tested the line in his own lap top and told here to just install the disc and it will be ok
Go to control panel and open the network connections You may have more than one item in network connections, find the one for the Telefonica connection. Double click it on the 'general' page click on properties down to the bottom left. This will open a new window, in the part labeled 'This connection uses the following items' scroll down to "Internet Protocol TCP/IP" left click on this entry, then click on the properties button. On this page make sure 'Obtain IP address automatically' is selected.
