Information wanted about growing lemon and orange trees in Tenerife

I am wanting to grow a lemon or orange tree from a pip. Has anyone done this. They grow so easily over here and I love the smell. Are there any other things that you have tried growing from seed that are nice and easy?

I am at the minute growing my own garlic, nothing like fresh garlic and it is so easy to grow. I have just popped a garlic clove in a pot and it has only taken over a week to grow. I need to know when the best time is for it to be ready and for me to pull it out??

Tell me more about the garlic...Please, I would love to try that. I would love to grow oranges/lemons too.
I tried to grow an avocado, but failed miserably. I am just not green fingered enough.

If you just get a pot with compost or even plant it in your garden! Just use 1 clove. Only thing is, I don't know if you have to wait until it flowers before you pull them up.

Hmm! That could be quite important? Will look it up, I have some old gardening books somewhere. I never thought of growing garlic!

If you grow orange or lemons from a pip you will have a wild varaity (with thorns and pobably not good fruit ) .

They use the wild tree (grown from a pip) as base stems and grow a tame variety on these stems .

Garlic ; just let it grow till the green shoot dies then pul it out (difficult to grow nice big bulbs , but its garlic even if they are small )

Don't interrupt me when I'm ignoring you!

I'd love to see things from your point of view but I can't get my head that far up my bum.

My parents had lemon and orange trees when they lived in Valle San Lorenzo. The trees were bought as small plant though. Within 2 years they had the best tasting lemons and oranges you could buy, maybe it was the dogs that helped with the flavour??

Smile Try Papaya

Don't know about growing citrus from pips, but papayas grow well. Wife planted seed 2 years ago, and we now have an 8' tree with a dozen (somewhat small so far!) papaya fruit. Mind you we don't like eating papaya, but the tree is a good talking point! Tony

I have a mandarin tree in a big pot, but the ants have established a fungus farm under the leaves, and all the proto-oranges dropped off before I noticed

Planting a pip would give you a vigorous bush, but small-to-nonexistent fruit, as the wild strain is only used as rootstock for cultivars.
