why not going into a via shop directly? there is one shop in the edificio simon in los cris, where the hipertrebol is ( opposite the sandy carpark), then another one on that little path towards the post office.

What if you just want to change your subscription to cancel the sports channels? I take it everyone else has found out they don't have the premiership anymore...

I managed to "upgrade" my subscription by email a couple of years ago, but when i tried to change it to a smaller one, met with no response!!!! so now i want to cancel it all, with the same results

It's doing my nut in too! I originally had Via Digital (about 6 years ago) with a lovely Thomson decoder that offered me 2 language options by default - V.O and English. This meant that programmes (eg Fox) that were broadcast in "English" would automatically set to English, and programmes (eg AXN) that were broadcast in "V.O." would also come out in English. And my automatic program changing so I could record when I was out on different channels was spiffing! Then Canal Digital took over almost 3 years ago, and I got loads more channels etc etc.... All was well in the Stumpy household! Sadly, my decoder went "PLIP FIZZ PLUFFFFT!" about 3 weeks ago, so I called Canal Digital's "Customer Service" department, and they sent some chaps round to check it out. 22 Euro later, after they told me my decoder had gone "PLIPO FITH PLUFF BECKHAN" I had a twinkly new (but CRAP) Canal Digital decoder. I now have ONE language option by default, so I either choose VO or English depending upon which channel I want to record when I'm out - which involves changing the master settings every time (whay joy!), and now the bloody "programar grabacion" thing only shows me a warning to turn over 1 minute before the programme starts - it DOESN'T turn it over for me - which is very handy for when I'm not there! To add insult to injury, it randomly turns itself off for no reason - it manages to stay on all day when I'm out (and all night when I'm asleep), but 5 minutes after turning the TV on, it goes off. I'm losing my patience now, not to mention all my Premiership football. And then.... the "Customer Service" lady calls me and asks me if I'm happy with my service. All this AFTER I've registered with plus.es and sent them a detailed email (in Spanish) about my language option problem, only to receive a reply a week later saying "click the plus button, use the left and right arrows to select the language you want" - like I'd not done that - "and that's how you do it". D'oh! So, I've spent £300 on a funky Toshiba HDD/DVD recorder I can't use when I'm on holiday to record my favourite programmes because they're all f£%&*d up! As I type, the bloody thing's just gone off again!
On a plus (pardon the pun) note, the "customer service" lady did speak in English when she realised that my attempts to swear at her in Spanish were futile. She called me back about my complaint (I asked if there was any chance they could unify the language system so that anything recorded in English as original version could be transmitted as "V.O.") and she said that English was for programmes that came from the UK, and VO was for those from the US. So I switched on JAG (Alerta Roja) which was made in the US and it came up in.... SPANISH! Which was what I was trying to tell her.
OK, I know I pay them so I can receive channels, and I do receive channels, but I DON'T LIKE IT ANYMORE!
You can call 902 11 00 10 and take your chances with the answering service, or do as suggested below - take the decoder and card to a Canal Digital shop and throw it at them, shouting "Donde esta mi futbol? No he recibido ningun anuncio del perdido de la Premiership. Tengo que irme al pub los sabados, domingos, lunes, martes y miercoles, y estoy gastando mucho comprando cervezas y sandwiches de beicon!" But before you do this, carefully spread some marmalade on a piece of card and slide it into the card slot.
I could complain for Britain.... But Showtime is 875 Euros plus a decoder and moveable dish. Then again, I'm spending at least 20 Euro on each trip to the pub (there are two of us, and in all fairness, the pub does now let me take my own bacon sandwiches in as it doesn't serve food), so doing the maths means that I'd be better off installing it and watching my beloved football at home, making my own bacon sandwiches and buying beers from the shop next door......
OK, I called 902 11 00 10, waited for the message, and pressed "0" for "other options". The message only said ".......Ayudarle" (help you - then it went quiet, so I assumed I had to say what I wanted, so I said "Cancelacion de contrato". I got through to a Spanish speaking operator and asked (in Spanish) if there was an English speaking person. I was told "NO" I asked what I would need to do if I wanted to cancel, and was told I would have to give the DNI (NIE) number of the contract holder, and call before the 25th of the month to make a formal cancellation notice to avoid being charged further. I then asked how I would return my decoder, and was told "The operator will tell you what to do". I hope this may help you out a bit. If at all possible, get a Spanish speaker to call on your behalf from your home, so you have the details ready (including the card number)
Stumpy xx

About 6 years ago, we called Via Digital to cancel our subscription. The direct debit was stopped, and we didn't hear anything else from them.
We moved.
Called them again shortly after and asked what to do with the receiver. They said they would be in touch - Heard nothing
2 years ago, we received the equivalent of a repossession order from a debt collection agency. They wanted their "box" back, and threatened us with a denuncia.
We immediately phoned them (backed up by a letter in spanish) telling them to come and get it, as we had asked them to do years ago (thank God we kept it)
We had another letter a few weeks later, telling us that we had their property and were in breach of contract.
I telephone them and told them that we still had their "box" and if they wanted it come and get it - They said someone would be in touch, to arrange pick up, and actually apologised!
That was 2 years ago - never heard from them again - we still have the "box"
If all you are worried about is football, then you don't need to pay for showtime, there is a company in Tenerife supplying cards for a system called Digitalb, they are just over 200€ for sports with all the British football plus more on and just over 400€ for football and extra channels including films and films premieres, they have an agent in Tenerife all that is needed is to point your dish at a different satellite and hey presto away you go, P.M me for details but before you do search "digitalb" and see what you could have got, or failing that pop up to El Medano and go into the El Medano bar, ask for Wayne and he will show you his system and put you in touch with the cards supplier. "Mods this is an openly advertised contact in many different circulars and also on the internet so please don't delete as this could help forum members with their British Football"
