Family Law in Tenerife for Nationals and Foreigners.

Does anyone know of any family law specialists here in Tenerife? Does anyone have specific knowledge of how family law operates in Tenerife, and perhaps especially when the families are foreign/British, or even when one party is in Tenerife and another elsewhere??? Conversely, does anyone know whether British family law has any jurisprudence in Tenerife?

This is research for me, so I'd really appreciate serious answers only on the thread ... please!

If anyone has specialist information in this area, can they also tell me whether the questions I've asked above are, in fact, the right sort of questions to be asking ... I know from my experience in property here that asking the "right" questions is half the battle! So, if there are other questions I need to be thinking about ... what are they?!!

A quick search on the website of the Santa Cruz Colegio de Abogados gave this list of lawyers who allegedly specialise in family law and speak English - however, it's suspiciously long...

Might be a place to start, though.

My solicitor has told me that tenerife falls under the hauge convention (spelling?), which means that when i comes to kids (residency and contact orders) you have to follow the same laws as you would in the uk.

Although from what I've read on the internet its really hard to get someone served with court papers in another countrie. there are loads of bits and bobs on the internet about this.

hope this hepls have started to learn the family law thing backwards because of ex bla bla bla

Yes, the Hague convention is right ... Spain is in Europe after all. But it is allowed its own legislation, as the UK is: there isn't an EU family law, as I understand it, but different national laws which don't have to be identical.

I need to find out what the law is here, and how it relates to nationals and foreigners, and what the interrelationship is between the family law systems of two EU countries, i.e. UK and Spain, obviously!! The problem with info on the internet is quality ... most is rubbish, as I always used to tell my students who insisted on doing "research" online instead of heading for the library! This is why I'm looking for anyone on this forum (and elsewhere of course) with specialist and, ideally, qualified knowledge.

Thanks for that Kelly, and duende ... good list!
