Question Has anyone had experience of receiving registered letters to a complex in Tenerife?

Has anybody living on a complex had problems receiving post which either too big for the letterbox or needs a signature? I would like to know whether the behaviour of Adeje postoffice is legal under Spanish law. They place a notification in the letterbox that 'you were not at home' and you then have to go to the post office and collect the item. On top of this, you have to wait until the following day. If you were not in fact at home, this would be fair enough. Yesterday I actually witnessed the following: the postman needed access to our gated complex so he buzzed the recipient of the piece of mail, who then opened the gate for him. The postman then simply posted the notification in the letterbox, requiring the recipient to go to Adeje postoffice the next day, even though the postman had actually proven that the recipient was at home. Can they do this? How would you complain? If you did, would you ever get any post again? Does anyone care?

I've had a notification delivered on a day when I was definitely at home. I've also had a notification that had obviously been put in the wrong box as the parcel had been returned by the time the notification was put in mine.

When I complained about it at Adeje post office I was told "That is down to the postman and nothing to do with Correos".

I would suggest complaining to the complex President and ask him to take the matter up with Correos.

Most of the time in Los Cristianos with parcels and letters they usually just put a note in the letterbox and we have to go the post office to collect. I have only known of one occasion when the post lady has come up to our apartment with a registered letter.

In fact I must go and check the post box as I am expecting a parcel which I will then have to collect from the post office tomorrow as they never try to deliver.
And no, I don't think anyone cares.

We never ever have a parcel or certificado letter delivered, and I am usually at home when the postie comes.

We always have to go to the post office the next day and queue up for ages to pick it up.

Will be interesting if we do find the answer to JAnot's question, ie. is that legal?

And is it worth catching the postie and asking him to try and deliver parcels in the future? - probably not would be my guess

you go to the post office they can give you a form so you can complain on which ever service you want. It has to be filled out in Spanish.

I did this when I didn't receive post for a couple of weeks. After I filled it in I had no problems after that, the post....I mean 'bills' flowed in!

I think it depends on the individual postie and size of package (no rude puns please!). Our postie now knows us, so will always, where possible, bring the parcel with him.

However, before we got our regular chap, our mail was mega erratic, even letters. We complained to the Correos, who insisted there was no problem, and we just didn't have any mail, for the woman I complained to, turn up herself the next day - with around 20 letters that had been sat in the Correos...... wacky system!!
