There is a small shrine at los Cristianos near to where the boat trips are sold dedicated to the Virgin Mary. I did try to translate the plaque last time I was over explaining why it is there but wasn't 100 percent sure so could anyone explain..I think it is something do do with a statue found by fisherman in the sea but i'm not sure..

what you probably mean is not the statue of virgin mary, but the statue of virgin carmen, patron saint of fishermen. in 2005, a stone statue of the virgin of carmen was sunk, on purpose, near the beach, at a depth of 30 metres.

The Virgin Mary, as la Virgen del Carmen, is the patron saint of fishermen, and is honoured once a year to beg protection for her charges during the coming year.

A couple of years ago, a huge stone copy of the statue was sunk in Los Cristianos harbour to place the protection there permanently
