Change your locks when you rent or buy property

This only came to me when I was posting on another thread – but I think it is very important. It is surprising how many people do not change their locks when they rent an apartment from someone. Whether it be a private rental or through an agency, it is of paramount importance that you do this to protect your possessions. Sadly this is also true when you buy, whether it be new or not. I recently heard of a couple who bought a new property in Silencio and were robbed, but no one broke in – a key was used! Be careful, new barrels don't cost a lot and take only seconds to change.

good advice even if bought new as many people have access to the keys when being built.... change the locks.....

This is important for holiday lets too. Owners of holiday apartments should change their locks from time to time as you never know who has had a key cut. This needn't be expensive. If you know other owners who you really trust or have more than one apartment yourself you can swap locks and keys assuming the locks are the same type of course.

You always get five keys with a decent security lock. The best ones come with a credit card size certificate and the only way you can get a copy cut is by presenting the plastic card with the key. They cost between 25 and 30 euros.
