well, just pick up a copy from The Paper and on the first or second page appear the contact details of Clifford( i think he actually runs the sales team) who does the reviews. just give him a bell

I'm pretty good at getting free "awareness" for businesses and general marketing strategies, however I have never had to do this with a bar and feel it wont be easy.
Why? Well there are so many of them. If you had a new business to the island, something that's rare things would be different. You could go to the press and say "i have a new innovative business would you do an article on me?" This may prompt a positive response as the business is unusual and it will give their readers something different to read about. If the papers did an article for all the bars opening day on day, well, that would fill the paper.
To generate awareness for your bar think of something unique to do with your opening night for example. I don't know what to suggest because most of its been done already but think hard, you may come up with something. Try to think of ways that will draw in the punters and get them out of the other bars into yours. Personally, I feel people drink go into bars, not because of price, but because of the people who go in there. I know I do. I may pay more in my chosen bar than others I could frequent, but its where my friends go.
You could always invite a radio station to do a live roadshow from your bar but they will want something in return. If you did this, you WOULD have to do something unique and innovative, something that makes your bar different to all the other 00000's of them and something that will show the station as forward thinking and innovative.
Sorry I cant be more helpful, promoting awareness of bars in a cost effective way ain't an easy task.

Ha . I ll write you a review for a few beers! After all its only ones persons opinion and surely wont count for much unless easily lead. I always say seeing is believing and dont knock anything you haven't tried.In any case. If you're opening on the 6th wont you need to be open for a wee while before a review could be performed. Else its a preview surely! Perhaps you should mention which bar and exactly where it is and maybe people such as myself will have a mosey on down.(is that allowed on here?) I think Janet will be checking this for my bad punctuation so maybe she can answer that one! Best of luck anyway..!
