What are your 'wow' experiences and attractions you didn't expect on Tenerife?
Hi there!
I've been coming to Tenerife for years, stayed all over the island and obviously I absolutely love it!
But I feel like I've been doing all the big-name attractions and not necessarily discovered the 'true' Tenerife - never been to the Mercedes Mountains, haven't visited a lot of the little villages in the north of the island.
I remember discovering the wine and honey museum in El Sauzal and feeling like I'd made a bit of a breakthrough - a trip to the Vina Norte winery soon followed. It's stuff like that I love, having experiences that noone told me about until you literally get lost and find somewhere special, by accident!
What are the best places to go or things to experience in Tenerife that many tourists probably don't know about? I'm going back to Tenerife soon and want to have that 'wow' moment again!
Thanks all - great forum!

Hiya Stormy.
Have you been to Masca yet? And I decided one day to check out the Mercedes Mts. Auh! They're beautiful. You definately don't feel like your in tenerife...apart from the couple of thousand feet drops past the tiny windy roads, lol.
Deffo check it out, if you follow the little road called Taganana through those mountains, you'll come to a little beach cove, well in the pic it looks huge, but its not too big, but cute with a beach bar, and you can sit there with those stunning spikey mountain-tops as your scene in the sun and watch the Canarian men fish for Bicuda (type of Barracuda). Bliss.
Hops this helps! (see pic)

I haven't tried that, sounds gorgeous! And your image is lovely too!
Masca sounds nice as well, think I need to do a little research on this neck of the woods. I've always been put off heading into the Mercedes range in a hire car because of the narrow roads - !
That's one day sorted!
Big thanks!

But, the road to get there is a little hairy in some places too there, but not as bad as the Mercedes Mountains, so not to worry.
Its a great place to picnic for the day. When you find yourself on the 'long and winding road'...er, you'll eventually meet two roundabouts, small ones, go straight over both and you notice a little side road on your left that leads down to a restaurant. It has a humongus tree there with park benches underneath and you can sit there have lunch and admire the view.
There's also a really long stone wall you can perch on to admire one of the attractions, a spikey piece of lava rock in the middle of the canyon all by itself (which may sound dumb but its a real spectacle!).
Bliss! CC

If you have a car, then try driving to Teide Las Canadas, then onwards along the spine of the Island towards Santa Cruz. The views along the top as you pass the observatory are breathtaking, and you can see the sea on both the North and South sides a mile or two below. As you gently descend towards Esparanza wood, the scenery is extraordinary, with a real feel for rural Tenerife. Bring a picnic, as it is an all-day journey.
Return back via the TF1.

People - thanks so much for some great inspiration! I'm kinda curious about that Masquerade experience. I'll explain more in a PM. And no, I don't bat for both sides, lol!
Anyway thanks again!

Considering that when I first flew to Tenerife, and I thought I was going to Spain, it has to have been my first breath taking sight of Teide.
Next best was getting off the coach at the village high up where the waters pumped out - and getting a sharp pain in my lungs ..... from the clean, crisp and fresh air!
