Efficiency of parking control in Tenerife

You have to marvel at the efficiency displayed by the police and gruas when it comes to deal with illegal parking here in Tenerife.

Both yesterday and today the gruas have removed in excess of 10 cars each day it takes them less than 30 minutes from the time the police arrive on their scooter to the time the last car is towed.

This has become regular daily entertainment in the area, even more so when someone arrives and parks in a place a car has just been removed from locks the doors and then walks away watching as the grua drives off, this normally results in the police officer "targetting" that car for their sheer cheek.

The real entertainment starts when people start to arrive back from the beach to find their car has been "stolen".

Call sadistic, cruel or just plain nasty but this keeps me entertained for hours.

Just to clarify the situation these are cars that are parked down the MIDDLE of the road and all the way around a roundabout with a no parking sign and yellow lines.

We have the same thing outside my office. There is hardly any parking near the harbour in Los Cristianos, but this doesn´t stop many people pulling up on yellow lines or, especially, the zebra crossings outside my office (there are 2) while they "pop in" to the bar or a local shop. The grua is always there before they return ....

Yes it's probably the most efficiently run business in Tenerife as well as lucrative. Funny that

There is always a definite increase in grua activity in the days/weeks running up to big public holidays here. On all of these public holidays there are fireworks, and it is generally believed that the extra funds the police raise in the car-pound are dedicated for fireworks purchase. An urban myth? Probably ... but there again, this is Tenerife!

Well if that *is* the case good on them at least they are putting it back into tourism and the enoyment of the islanders.

My Mood:
I don't understand why they don't paint more zebra crossings on all roads this would allow us all to park "just too run in for something"
These areas are very handy as at the moment they seem to be outside the shops I want to go into...
The grua could not lift everybody's car...or would they just buy more Grua's?.....

Actually it´s the Spanish word for a crane, but it´s the name for the tow trucks that remove illegally parked vehicles.

Its an OUTRAGE, having your car clamped or towed or even issued with a £60 parking ticket. How do these people sleep at night.

I could never be involved in anything like that.
