Pay attention to the speed limit on the TF1 in Tenerife

Most of you drivers will know that the speed limit on most parts of the motorways in Tenerife is 120kmh. The stretch however from Torviscas to the end of the motorway at the Adeje roundabout is 100kmh. Most people don't seem to take any notice of that but they should.

3 of my pals have been fined for speeding in the last week on that stretch of road. It seems the Police are using hand held speed cameras from the motorway fly-overs in the area then stopping motorists at the Adeje roundabout.

Be warned and stay within the speed limits as it seems like they are cracking down on them.

Be safe when

This is the only part of the motorway with signs that say "Velocidad controlada por radar" (or something very similar).

The other place to watch out for is just by the Mar Azul complex, they also use the portable detectors there and then stop you at the turning for Tijoco Bajo.

Speeding fines from 60 Euros ... to an unspecified maximum. Payable on the spot (so always carry some cash around with you, because if you can´t pay, they impound the car).

Points on licences vary too, between 2 and 6, depending on how far above the speed limit you are.

My Mood:
I got a speeding ticket on the side road that runs paralell with the tf1, going towards the roundabout for los cristianos/chayofa.

The policman was very nice, I was doing 77 in a 60 zone and I got a 100 euro fine which went down to 70 if I paid within a week! I didn´t get any points on my licence though, was I just lucky?

sorry gang, I am in tourist mode. Presume they cannot put points on a non spanish license ?

When I move over I have to transfer within 6 months ? I will re-read the "moving to tenerife" thread again.

Well done - AND DONT SPEED

Just to add ... don't forget that if they do 'grua' your vehicle away, you will also have to pay the charges for this. Also, if you don't collect the vehicle from the appropriate compound fairly quickly, they will also charge you for storage.

I'd love to see things from your point of view but I can't get my head that far up my bum.

I got caught speeding a few weeks back, 70kph in a 50. I received a 70 euros fine that I had to pay at a bank santander. No points on my license though.
