Story in a National Newspaper
Will we still be the Country of choice and still be Gt Britain if we continue to make the changes forced on us by the people from other countries that came to live in Britain because it is the Country of Choice?????? Think about it . ..
All I have to say is, when will they do something about MY RIGHTS? I celebrate Christmas, but because it isn't celebrated by everyone, we can no longer say Merry Christmas. Now it has to be Season's Greetings. It's not Christmas holiday, it's Winter Break. Isn't it amazing how this winter break ALWAYS occurs over the Christmas holiday? We've gone so far the other way, bent over backwards to not offend anyone, that I am now being offended. But it seems that no one has a problem with that. This says it all!
This is an editorial written by an British citizen, published in a National newspaper He did quite a job; didn't he? Read on, please!
IMMIGRANTS, NOT BRITS MUST ADAPT. I am tired of this nation worrying about whether we are offending some individual or their culture. Since the terrorist attacks on the 7th of the 7th we have experienced a surge in patriotism by the majority of Brits. However, the disgust about the attacks had barely settled when the "politically correct! " crowd began complaining about the possibility that our patriotism was offending others.
I am not against immigration, nor do I hold a grudge against anyone who is seeking a better life by coming to Britain, Our population is almost entirely made up of descendants of immigrants. (The Danes, Romans ect.) However, there are a few things that those who have recently come to our country, and apparently some born here, need to understand. This idea of the Brits being a multicultural community has served only to dilute our sovereignty and our national identity. As Britain's we have our own culture, our own society, our own language and our own lifestyle. This culture has been developed over centuries of struggles, trials, and victories by millions of men and women who have sought freedom.
We speak ENGLISH, not Indian, Urdu, Arabic, Chinese, Japanese, Russian, or any other language Therefore, if you wish to become part of our society, learn the language! "Land of Hope & Glory" is our motto. This is not some Christian, right wing, political slogan We adopted this motto because Christian men and women, on Christian principles, founded this nation, and this is clearly documented. It is certainly appropriate to display it on the walls of our schools. If God offends you, then I suggest you consider another part of the world as your new home, because God is part of our culture.
If the 'Union Jack' flag offends you, or you don't like our QUEEN, then you should seriously consider a move to another part of this planet. We are happy with our culture and have no desire to change, and we really don't care how you did things where you came from. This is OUR COUNTRY, our land, and our lifestyle. Our Laws give every citizen the right to express his opinion and we will allow you every opportunity to do so! But once you are done complaining, whining, and griping about our flag, our lifestyle our government, or our way of life, I highly encourage you take advantage of one other great BRITISH freedom, THE RIGHT TO LEAVE. It is Time for Gt. Britain to Speak up

Not a nice letter can you imagine how you would feel if the Spanish wrote something like that to apply to all Brits...

I think the part that says " IMIGRANTS NOT BRITS SHOULD ADAPT" says it all.We live in Tenerife and live by their rules and regs , respect thier culture and way of life, even though sometimes we may not AGREE with it we do not try and impose our culture, beleifs etc on the Spanish.

well I don't live in Spain, but if I did and they released a letter as above I would totally agree with them. After all I don't think I'm important enough for another nation to change their culture or beliefs just because I lived amongst them I would actually think the total opposite and respect everything they stand for even if I didn't practice it myself it would still be their place of birth not mine. And of course if I was so against their beliefs then I would simply leave!!!

I would love to know which "national newspaper" this appeared in because I would permanently boycott something that would publish such an offensive letter. I do not know what theyre on about with regarding to Christmas as I have never heard such rubbish. Ok I dont live in some large city but I would like to still believe that we are a tolerant country and would have no problem with people coming here to find a better life as I believe the majority wish to after all this is what the majority of our ancestors did anyway for some reason or other. I would suggest also that this person still has freedom to do what they wish unlike many others in this world, that to be British still means a lot to many in this country regardless of what they may think. A British passport is still well revered - even many others who live abroad and will continue to do so still maintain one. What I do detest is the fact that there are some people who think that this island can stay in the "glorious " past - no that some of it is indeed glorious - far from it - yes we have many problems but probably no more than any other country in this world and we will survive but not with such narrow minded outlook.

Sorry you feel that way but i think you are now in the minority who think like that. People have had enough and because of our hard won freedom we can say how we feel, but not for long i fear.

I celebrate Christmas, but because it isn't celebrated by everyone, we can no longer say Merry Christmas. Now it has to be Season's Greetings
The majority of Brits celebrate a pagan festival of giving presents & partying rather than the religious festival which simply coincides with our own traditions. Where in the bible does it mention Santa Claus & reindeer?
For me christmas is about St Nicholas & has nothing whatsover to do with religion. For most people, the school nativity play is as close to a religious act as they will get. How did that fat old man dressed in red get mixed up with some baby born in Israel anyway?

Our local infant/junior school no longer have a nativity play at Christmas because it may offend pupils from other religions, how sad is that for British youngsters !!!!
