If it's the same email address they have used on facebook you can search by that. If you enter that into the search bar in top right of page and hit enter you should get the profile if it exists. It's quicker and easier that way as think of how many John Smiths, for example, are going to be displayed if you search for that name wheras there should only be one profile per email address.

You can send them an email ivitation to be your friend, click on search for friends and it will ask your email address and password to be able to search in your contacts.

As for searching - on the new layout, there's a little box on top right hand corner (says 'search' by it ) type in the name and everybody that falls in that catergory are listed...

No. You can only post a pic for them to download (opt for friends to view only) or email the pic to their normal email address, not via facebook. Don't forget, if they have a hotmail account, the size of pic you can send is limited...
