So in effect PMs are now not "totally" private in that certain phrases or words are now picked up ????? and my biggest worry is that a banning is AUTOMATIC. Presumed Guilty without trial in other words.
Cant say I am 100% happy with this.
I should like to add that with regard to Pm`s
that IF our present Mods have access then I dont have a problem with that particualrly and I would trust them to act in the best interests of the forum and I would also accept that would act with integrity and honesty in respect of maintaining confidentiality.
I do though have a problem with automatic bannings for phrases which are deemed to be spamming without due process so to speak, having been a victim of such procudures on a Holiday Forum.
Could I suggest a temporary suspension of PM privilidges until the matter is reviewed would be a more acceptable solution ????

This is the first that I have heard of this. I suspect that VBolletin have a standard set of suspicious words and phrases - rather like Yahoo mail et al and then admin can add to that list if they wish to

We can't and don't have access to PM's.
The only time that we get to see a PM that is not addressed to us is if another member forwards it to us because they have a concern over something that they have received.

Well, yes they are private, in the sense that we don't know what's in them, even if they do contain spam phrases... Zarion would only know the spam phrases not the rest of the content. Mike and I know nothing!

I would feel uncomfortable with this personally, as I like to think we are all allowed a level of privacy for communication, however thankfully this is not an issue

I'm sure this is not a worry, as a list of the spam phrases that have been triggered is included in the notification, so there is a fair indication of what is 'actual' spam and what is normal conversation.
It can definitely be suggested though
The whole point of it is to protect the forum & it's members, not to invade privacy.

I would like to reiterate that myself and the moderators are NOT able to read PM's.
We have simply implemented a new anti-spam measure that sends an alert when a spam keyword or phrase has been written in a PM. I am only informed of the sender and receiver and which spam keyword was included in the content.
We respect our members privacy and our current moderators, as well as previous moderators, will inform you that they have never and will never have the ability to read members private messages.
This is a very new feature that has been added due to new members complaining that they were unable to send a PM if they had a post count of less than 5. It is a sad shame that after only a few days of this new system being in place, a former regular member has received a ban.
Like Kirsty has already stated, any members who have received an automatic ban are more than welcome to forward the original PM to myself or one of the moderators for review.
The list of spam keywords and phrases are very specific.
Listening to PeterRayner's comments, I have now lifted the automatic ban. We will still receive a notification but can contact the member prior to a ban being implemented in order to clarify the situation. This will avoid any confusion.
I hope this calrifies any uncertainties. If anyone has any questions, please feel to ask.
