By not paying direct debit it cost you money maybe as much as 80 pounds a year though as you say when you get the bill it makes you stop and think.
The credit crunch does not affect everybody those with good jobs and incomes will just carry on spending . For every body else the rise in prices of everything makes you shop around and i shop in Lidl ansd Aldi they have some great products better than the main supermarkets.
Here is my advice shop around use price comparison sites such as www.moneysupermarket.com and the best one on the internet [url="http://www.moneysavingexpert.com"]Money Saving Expert:

www.uknetguide.co.uk/Finance/Utilities
www.thisismoney.co.uk/
www.dooyoo.co.uk/price-comparison
UtilitySwitch.com/Compare energy Prices

USe these sites to save money and dont give it to the fat cats. David

Sticking to whats on the shopping list and not buying the extras that you just happen to spot and avoiding the clothes aisles saves me a fair bit every week! Also the boring bit of planning what to eat for the next week which I absolutely hate as Im stuffed if I have bought a load of salad stuff and its too cold to eat it. I hate not being able to change my mind on the day. Staying in at lunchtimes at work also helps and I dont get wet in the rain either!

I've had cut back on a few things aswell.

I've cut back on moderation, I've eased off on temperance, completely given up abstinance and seriously trimmed my prudence.

I am pleased to say though, I have begun to dress for excess.
