11 quid costs me 20 with British Telecom in the UK!

what a laugh¡¡,
I have cancelled a phone line in u.k. and B:T: said they owed me 11 quid, fine I got mother in law to pay cheque into bank. However another cheque arrived for 11 quid ,so mother in law informs B.T. They cancel first cheque and I incur a charge of ten pounds, ma in law again informs B.T. who have cancelled second cheque and I have incurred another 10 pound charge.
So far B.T. refund has cost me 20 quid,you couldn´t make it up¡¡¡

I just got a cheque from BT for £32 as I moved my landline to Talk Talk to get Broadband - looks like I better not pay it in yet then.
