It will hog your computer when it is scanning so Set AVG up to scan once a week instead of every day or on start up.
Also set it to scan during the night when you are not using your computer.

Should make little or no difference to performance when it is not performing a scan.

I use Avast 8.0 but hate it. Very slow. I prefer CCleaner. So so quick.

I agree with the others Avast is far the best, ive had it on my PC now for years and dont have any problem with it. I hasnt slowed my PC at all

I would have AVG 8 over Avast, generally if you take a virus infected PC, scan it with Avast first and then scan it with AVG, AVG will find several viruses that Avast has missed.

AVG gets better reviews than Avast as well

Mcafee and Norton - blurrrggghhhhhhhhhhhhhh

I think you've got a little confused, CCleaner is just a temporary file remover whereas AVG and Avast are antivirus programs

I haven't had any problems with AVG 8.0 and i wouldn't say it's slowed my computer down either.
