A customer of mine seems to have accidentally locked her iphone up. When they switch it on, it asks to be connected to itunes but when you do, it cannot identify the sim card.
Maybe the sim cards had it, but she's only owned it a week. It's a 3G, locked to O2.
Anybody had this problem? tried looking on that forum (thanks Kirsty), but couldn't find any threads.

What did she do to lock it up? I take it she has the USB lead to connect to the PC? Do you know what software was used to unlock it in the first place? What firmware is it on?
If it's on O2, it shouldn't get locked up as that is a proper contract.
Try the following :
Go to Settings > Carrier > then select either automatic, or movistar (or whatever o2 use over here, however movistar is the official iPhone operator in Spain)

She switched it on and it just shows this screen saying plug into itunes. So we've done that, and it recognises the name of the owner but says there is no other info relating to that phone. It then says, make sure your Sim card is in the phone, or it is not pinlocked.
Must be the Sim card playing up. As I said, she only got it last week so the firmware etc must be up to date, but she just can't get past that first screen.

Sounds like she's put it in DFU mode to me. In order for the phone to work again she will have to restore it, as once in DFU mode, you HAVE to do an upgrade or restore. If she has stuff on it and she doesn't want to lose it, she will have to wait until she is back home at the PC she normally connects the phone to, as that is where any backup will be stored.
If she has not done much with it since her last backup on her own PC, then she can go ahead and restore it, then re-restore it once she gets home so she can use it while she's on her hols. If she does it now though, she needs to be aware that she will lose anything that has been done on it since the last backup. It is her call how important that is.
Start your iTunes and connect your iPhone to your mac/pc.
Keep holding the sleep/wake and home button for about 10 seconds. Release the sleep/wake button, but keep holding the home button. you will hear some sounds.
If you did it correctly iTunes will tell you that it has detected an iPhone in recovery mode.
If you see the iTunes icon and cable on your iPhone, your device is not in DFU mode, but in recovery mode. Your device’s screen will be black when you are in DFU mode. You may have to try this several times so succeed.
Connect your device back to your Pc/Mac and press SHIFT+CLICK (pc) or COMMAND+ CLICK on the restore button.
Browse for the firmware version you’d like to install and select it (you can find it on the firmware page HERE. Download the firmware before you start from that page to place you can find it your PC harddrive).
Wait for a couple of minutes and the iPhone will be as new.
Hope that helps
