Apple 'To Approve Rival App From Spotify'

A music streaming service is set to launch an iPhone application that could dent the dominance of Apple's own iTunes device.

Apple has refused to deny speculation that it will approve Spotify's app, and declined to comment when contacted.

It's likely to go ahead which will allow users to stream rather than buy music, according to a spokesman from Spotify.

Spotify is a successful software download with two million users in the UK alone.

It can be used for free in return for advert breaks.

If Apple does allow their app on to the iPhone, it could hit the popularity of Apple's own music service iTunes, which lets users buy mp3 downloads.

This has led to speculation that Apple would refuse to authorise it.

It will be free for its premium web subscribers, who pay £9.99 a month to listen to music without any adverts.

A key feature of the app is the ability to play tracks when the user is offline, for example on the London Underground.

Apple have already agreed to iPhone music applications from Lastfm, Deezer and Pandora, but none have the potential momentum of Spotify.

Mystery As iPhone Worker 'Commits Suicide'

A Chinese worker has apparently committed suicide after losing a secret prototype of a new Apple iPhone.

The Chinese worker reportedly told friends he was roughed up by security staff after telling them he had mislaid one of the rare handsets.

It is also alleged he was locked in a room and had his house searched.

Days later, he jumped to his death from his 12-storey block of flats.

The 25-year-old worked in a factory in Shenzhen run by Taiwanese firm Foxconn Technology Group, one of Apple's biggest contractors.

He was reportedly responsible for transporting 16 prototypes but confessed on July 13 that one was missing.

Apple has confirmed it is investigating the death.

Foxconn has been accused of poor treatment of staff before but insists the allegations are not true.

Apple and its rivals all try to keep details of new announcements secret in order to build anticipation.

Recent rumours suggest the 4th generation of the smartphone could include a sliding keyboard, or a built-in camera focus.

Hackers Could Control iPhone With SMS Message

Hackers could take over your iPhone, according to security researchers who say Apple is aware of the problem.

And the method is chillingly simple - a text message containing one square character.

Apple have found a flaw in the way the phones handle text messages, which could allow hackers complete control of the handset.

The hack would come in the form of a burst of SMS messages which contain a single character.

They would let the hacker control dialling the phone, visiting websites, the phone's camera and also sending texts to other iPhones, allowing control of them as well.

Apple still hasn't released a patch to combat the potential hacks.

You don't transfer the 'torrent' onto the phone, you have to download them first. Once you have downloaded the torrent, import the files into iTunes and Sync.

Apple Gets The Pip Over 'Exploding IPods'

Apple is investigating reports that some iPhones and iPods explode when exposed to direct sunlight.

Several incidents of exploding iPods have been reported across Europe and the US.

The European Commission consumer safety watchdog has launched a separate probe.

An Apple spokesman said the company was waiting to examine the individual appliances.

Apple has told the European Commission it does not consider the incidents a widespread problem

Reports of 'exploding' iPods include the case of a French teenager who was slightly injured when his iPhone started to hiss and then shattered.

Similar stories have been reported in the UK.

Earlier this month 11-year-old Ellie Stanborough's iPod Touch blew up at her home in Liverpool.

Her family contacted Apple to report the incident and were only offered a full refund of £162 if the family agreed to keep the deal confidential.

Apple denied it issued a gagging order on the family.

The company has dealt with safety concerns about their products in the past.

Last year the Japanese Government warned the iPod Nano represented a potential fire risk.

And in 2006 the company recalled some laptops due to over-heating batteries.

Apple use Lithium-ion batteries for their products. These are more powerful than traditional nickel-based batteries, according to the Apple website.

The Silicon Valley-based company has sold in excess of 200 million iPods since the product was launched in 2001.
