I am not very hot on computers either, but I was wondering if you could plug in some external speakers. If you get sound through them then the fault lies with the speakers in the laptop. If no sound then we have to investigate further. Sorry thats all I have at the moment. If this is of no use then maybe I can speak to a friend of mine who is a bit more clued up for you.

You may need to re-install the driver. Do you know how to get into system properties and see if their is a question mark next to Sound. If their is you need to reinstall driver or sound codec.

the problem is that as the sound was there before we do not know what you have done to lose your sound. there can be hundreds of reasons.
normal methods for quick fixes are to check that sound isn't muted or that the wrong device hasn't been chosen then undo what you did before the sound went missing then to do a system restore to before the sound was lost then driver reinstall. if none of these work take it back to the shop or get someone to fix it for you.
you could always try the windows help it isn't as crap as people think.

e have called our technician (who unfortunately can't come until next week) as we are not computer literate to do a system restore. We may make things worse
