I want to set up a WiFi access point in my house. Can anyone recommend any kit?
Right... I have my router upstairs, and this is great if I want to use my PC or use the laptop out on the roof terrace, however because I live in a Canarian house, the walls a really thick, so I need to set up an access point just down the stairs a little bit so I can get the wireless in the bedroom, bathroom, kitchen... in fact, anywhere.
Can anyone recommend any kit to do this? I have seen lots, but not having set one up before, I would appreciate recommendations.

any of the d-link or netgear access points are a good bet.
or just try moving your router to a better place will help as the closer to the rebar your router is the more distorted the signal.
or if you are brave enough try diff channels on the router as conflict with other 2.4ghz equipment can limit searchable area. i.e. cordless phones, tv streamers.
most home broadcast equipment run on the 2.4ghz band.
p.s. you are better using a switch to set up access points rather than trying to do it with the router.

Fancy explaining that to me again in layman's terms! What is a rebar? What do you mean about using a switch?

My experience of Routers in Tenerife is that they're all crap! I have a very solid 1930's brick built house & my BONA ADSL-MR4CW/UK router has no problem bouncing the signal out, I can even use my skype wi-fi phone in the corner shop approx 100m away. Yet the Telefonica router that my sister has can't even pass through a wooden door!

My router is not a Telefonica one. It's one of THESE.

Ta for that. It's got a good review, hasn't it! Anyway... and suggestions what I should do to get WiFi throughout my house then, as it's getting hot up here and if I could use the lappy downstairs in my nice air conditioned bedroom, I would be a happy bunny!

rebar is the metal used in reinforcing concrete. as it is normally welded together in a reinforcing mesh it makes a very good signal diffuser.
ok forget the switch just manualy give it access to your router before you try to set it up.
