the reason for this is,
a scheduled flight will go (fly) even if it is half full, or even if its only got 1 person on.
this is because the company who own the plane have already budgeted for the plane to go either full or empty.
there is also another reason as to why they are different.
if easy jet / ryain air offer seats at 1p its better to fill the plane up this way than have no-one on the plane at all, then they get you with the added value aspects of their business, which is beer, fags, food etc etc. .
once in america we caught a flight (3 of us) and the total amount of passengers were 6 . . we had two pilots, and four cabin crew !!!
a charted flight is when you or a company charter a plane to go some where. therefore for example this may cost #150,000 (pound)
if there are 150seats on a plane you need to price the seats at around #1000 (pound) each. just to break even.
if you or the company offer seats at a reduced price this means YOU or whoever will be out of pocket.
