What's the difference between a chartered and a scheduled flight?

difference between a charter flight and a scheduled then. We always book a scheduled, the charter ones are more its the same flight as well. Whats the difference why 2 different prices for the same flight.

I think a charter is where a third party books the plane and they then sell the seats.
Not sure though.
Dave.

A scheduled flight is a flight that conforms to a timetable (similar to a bus or train). It has a specific departure time from Airport A. It has a scheduled arrival time at Airpot B. It does not matter how regularly or frequently the flight travels between the two airports. The fact that it has to depart and arrive at specified times implies it is a scheduled, timetabled flight.

A charter flight is a plane that has been hired to fly a between two locations regardless of departure or arrival time. It is assumed the plane has been hired for a flight but can depart sometime after it has been hired.

For holidays for the mass public, an airline still has to fly a scheduled flight regardless of the number of passengers. A holiday company will hire charter flights when they have sufficient passengers to financially justify the flight

the reason for this is,

a scheduled flight will go (fly) even if it is half full, or even if its only got 1 person on.

this is because the company who own the plane have already budgeted for the plane to go either full or empty.

there is also another reason as to why they are different.
if easy jet / ryain air offer seats at 1p its better to fill the plane up this way than have no-one on the plane at all, then they get you with the added value aspects of their business, which is beer, fags, food etc etc. .

once in america we caught a flight (3 of us) and the total amount of passengers were 6 . . we had two pilots, and four cabin crew !!!

a charted flight is when you or a company charter a plane to go some where. therefore for example this may cost #150,000 (pound)
if there are 150seats on a plane you need to price the seats at around #1000 (pound) each. just to break even.

if you or the company offer seats at a reduced price this means YOU or whoever will be out of pocket.
