Ages ago my monitor gave up and I got my dad's old Samsung one with built-in speakers. I already had speakers at the time so didn't use the ones that were built in. Now I want to and I can't figure out how I get them to work!
Do I need to plug something in, or do I need a driver? The model is a Samsung SyncMaster 520TFT.

You didn't mention if you have tried the obvious of connecting an audio cable between the audio jacks on the monitor and PC
