Car Insurance with no UK address, can it be done?

Hope someone can help with this, I've just had the following e-mail from a friend of mine. Does anyone have any experience or suggestions which may help.

My dad has ordered a new motor-home from a UK company, the vehicle is a left footer and whilst it is being built here within a couple of weeks from the time of collection it will be taken over to Spain (they are full Spanish residents)

The old man is struggling to get insurance not being a UK resident – from your experience and contacts could you please advise or suggest a route to achieve the following:

Insure the motor-home being collected from Halifax (by an English ex-pat Spanish resident) – to be driven in the UK for 2-4 weeks max and then to be taken to mainland Europe (Spain) forever.

Can it be insured on someone else's insurance, but as your friend as a named driver?

That's what my gran does when I am back in the UK and she pays by the week...

IF he is a member of the AA I think they could provide cover.

Thanks Peter i don't think he is an AA member though as he has been a Spanish resident for quite a few years now.
