Can Brussels interference get any worse?

I thought it was April first when I read this this morning.......

Thousands of passengers are being forced to hop off buses midway through journeys to comply with barmy EU laws.
A Brussels ruling has banned local services longer than 30 miles to ensure drivers don't spend too long at the wheel.
As a result, drivers have to pull in as they hit that limit and order everyone OFF their bus.
They then change the route number on the front and invite passengers to jump back ON before resuming the trip.
By the way, you have to buy a ticket for each section of the journey!

No doubt you have to take your shopping, buggies etc off with you - nice in the rain.

You couldn't make it up!

Can't quite see Titsa pulling over on the TF1 on the way to Santa Cruz with the bendy bus, and putting 80 or so people on the hard shoulder, then saying "OK, you can get back on now"

I think what they are trying to do is not so much ban drivers from doing more than 30 miles, it is more to do with keeping them in-line with EU driving regulations.
Local buses have an exemption from these rules and drivers can drive without tachographs or driver cards, they also are not restricted by EU driver hours regulations.
The difference between a bus that travels between local towns and the bus that could go from one part of the country to the other, should decide weather which bus needs a tachograph and keep within driver hours regs.
Some bus company's might not always keep to this, so the 30 mile limit would make it easier to control.
