Has anyone on the Tenerife Forum been to the Dominican Republic?
Thinking of getting our holiday booked up, which will be the first proper one in 7 years so we may as well splash out. I quite fancy Punta Cana in the Dominican, does anybody have any experiences here or know if it's ideal for a family holiday.

I was thinking about going around mid Sept time, I've already been to Barbados - St. James, absolutely loved it and was going to live there myself at one point, but thought I'd try someplace different.

We've been a couple of times, it was very good but as OG says Barbados was better.
BUT the East is IMHO much nicer than the Caribbean.
Maldives or Thailand - stunning.
Just as a side note about the food, not just in the Dominican but anywhere where there is buffet style service we NEVER take the top plate from the pile of plates, alway get one from a couple down. Many times I have seen flys on the top plate as your waiting inline to get your plate.

Thanks Hopper the fact that you went back to The Dominican must mean that you enjoyed it there. I'm quite drawn to the Punta Cana area, I won't have such high expectations of Barbados then. If I'm honest I just want 2 weeks of relaxation, a bit of pampering, fun for the littleun, golf for the other half, all in a stunning location.
I went to the North of the Dominican in '99 with my parents and loved it. Going back in June with my girlfriend to Punta Cana this time and I've read nothing but excellent reviews on the resort. I am a member of a Forum for the Dominican Republic but not sure if I can post the link on here or not??? It is great for providing information on accomodation and has lots of reviews and advice (bit like Tenerife Forum but not as good of course!!). I'll send the link by PM but will share on here if a Mod tells me I can :-)

I can highly recommend the website, and I found it after booking our holiday but I am more certain than ever now that I have made the correct choice of resort!!
For info - we have booked the Grand Palladium Punta Cana in PC and have upgraded to a Junior Suite with Thomson flying from the UK. If anyone would like me to scout out a hotel in the Punta Cana area (within a safe distance of our complex), I will do and email you pictures when I get back on June 16th.
