Question Why do Tenerife Forum members think children are getting out of control?

can the mods set a pole up on why people think kids are getting out of control...
tv giving them ideas on hanging around streets etc???
tv giving them too much info on how to get away with it???
computer games being too violent???
not enough to do in the way of youth clubs etc???
too much newspaper coverage of kids and crime???
peer pressure to be in a gang???
bad parenting???

loads of different reasons that kids are out of control but just wondered what people think is the main contributry factor on why its happening on such a wide scale nowdays

Political Correctness - not allowing enough discipline by anyone, restrictions in activities 'allowed', etc!

Pressure put on the kids from all different angles

they need to fit in at school
need to fit in in area where you live
dress code
the way they speak

Parents
teachers
if kids are in scouts - football clubs ect pressure from there

I live in London and there are a lot more gangs and the young kids are feeling pressured to join gangs just so they dont get troubled - also

they have closed a lot of youth centres, clubs where the kids would go to play pool etc so now they have nowhere else to go as such - they cant meet up with there friends in the libraries like we used to as there are less libraries and you have to be really quiet

A lot of parents as well (this is not an excuse) are working longer hours erct so have no time to spend wiht kids so kids are playing computer games (like San Andraes on the PS2) watching more TV etc

london got pipped at the post for gangs. There was a programme on the other week and Glasgow has more gangs... Half the size but 1 more gang apparantly... Cant see the point as the lads in glasgow have turfs of only 2 or3 streets in some parts and they cant even go to the local shop as its off turf and they get a doing off the gang that lives by the shops..

I can only speak about what i have witnessed and because i have only lived in london i cant really speak for other Cities in Britain as i have no experience, however i do believe that all cities have gangs and little gourps of hoodied folk intimidating the young, old female, male they seem to have no boundaries

Wasnt trying to play one upmanship on who had more gangs, but you are right it is everywhere even the smaller towns. We had gangs when I was a kid but they just fought each other. Had a chat about gangs in the pub with some local blokes around my age and they said the same. It was what we call nice fights, where you just have a toe to toe punch up and when you say "ok had enough" it would stop. Never went around causing mayhem and intimidating old people it was purely kids against kids. No knives, guns or jumping up and down on someone mob handed. Glad I had my youth when I did to be honest

I didnt think you were i was just saying that i only have experinece of living in london so can onlysoeak about what i see with my own eyes -

its funny you should mention what we did beacuse i bumped into someone this mornign i hadnt seen for 15 years - i went to school and collge wiht them and then after that lost contact

but we were speaking about what we did at school, its funny cos we dont remeber any gangs at school - we wore uniform so no-one would feel left out if they were not wearing the "in" clothes as such and we all played together -

i agree wiht you i'm gald i had my youth when i did but i do feel scared for my kids

now adays i'm scared to go to certain clubs (and i love music) in case i get too happy and maybe stand on someones foot by accident i then have to worry about them knifing me

Personally, I think blaming tv's, computer games etc is a kop out on the parents part.....

My son has had all these bad influences too, but hasn't felt the need to stab anybody, terrorise people or steal.... well, to my knowledge he hasn't

There were plenty of gangs around when I was growing up, most of them harmless. TV was restricted to 3 channels, and none of them started until late afternoon, but there was still cops & robbers, cowboys & indians, horror movies etc.....

Parents have to take responsibility. If a child is from a home without discipline or respect, it doesn't take a genius to work out that they'll grow up like that...
