I can understand your attitude. The 'big picture' can't have been much compensation if someone was a miner with a family to feed and a mortgage to pay. __________________ Michael (I am not now nor have I ever been a Sun reader!) Give me a break. But I don't get the sexy bit though. __________________ Michael (I am not now nor have I ever been a Sun reader!) Are the people in those areas not better of now than they were 50 years ago? | As far as going back into the Pits, not really Mac,no thank you,in a way I have to concede that indirectly it did me a favour,as I now run a very successful business(touch wood)everything in this World must move on,as far as other people being better off because of the closure of their local Pits,I know that at the time in certain areas of Wales as well as other areas it had a terrible impact on the community,(you have to realise that Mining was all they ever new and it also brought about problems domestically, with no money and unemployment levels in these areas with possibly little chance of getting other meaningful employment,at least not in the areas they lived, family life and moral in general tended to take a dive..you must bare in mind that it was generation after generation following each other into these Pits,it was the only Culture they knew,as far as having a negative effect on Miners health it most certainly did,a big majority of Miners had, or ended up with siliconosis, when I think of the levels imposed today by Health & Safety Regulations today, and what it was like back then( Risk assessments and Method statements? )..it makes me shudder ,I would like to think that hopefully ALL Miners came out the other end intact. | | | | The Following 2 Users Say Thank You to MAZOKA For This Useful Post: | | 15th February 2008, 12:17 | #8 (permalink) | | Super Tenerifian Join Date: Jul 2006 Gender: Posts: 2,964 | Quote: Originally Posted by old golfer Try Dorada.......... | I don't think there's enough. __________________ Michael (I am not now nor have I ever been a Sun reader!) And I voted for her. PS She couldn’t make up her mind to sink an Argentinean ship for many days and thus caused the death and maiming of scores on the Sheffield. Lots of people are still bitter but that’s one reason why it’s better in Tenerife Quote: Originally Posted by old golfer A heroine of coarse the woman who put Britain back on its feet, only for Labour to slowly ruin all the good work that was done.....
