How many people think Valentine's Day is important?

I was just wondering if people think Valentines is one of those celebrations that is more important for the younger generation- a bit like Christmas?
Lol, the reason I ask is that my daughter was in floods of tears this morning after not receiving the much anticipated card from a certain boy.. And quite a few of her friends were in similar states! Shes a teenager & takes the whole thing really seriously.
My Hubbie forgot to get me a card, I honestly was not upset as we have been married for years & I dont really need a card from a gift shop to feel happy..
So am I just being cynical or do other forum members think that Valentines day is no big deal when you are older & in a stable relationship

I do think it is aimed mainly at the younger people and they do take it to heart more We never bother with cards anymore as people these days tend to stick to the e cards, but he did wish me a happy valentine this morning

As an older generation I agree - perhaps it isnt quite so important although I am happy to say that I did get a card from hubby and am being taken out for dinner tonight!

I am also sorry to report that my older daughter who is 21 has been let down today by her boyfriend who thinks that Valentines Day is " a load of rubbish"! She went off to work with a sad little face and I really wanted to make things right for her. Her dad said that if he had thought he would have sent her one anonymously!

As the saying goes "the course of true love never did run smooth!

To those of you who didnt get a card today - Happy Valentines Day!

I think it is a HUGE deal for teenagers, but not so as you get older. It's just another rip off day as far as i'm concerned, and I certainly don'y need a £50 bunch of roses (which cost £5.99 last week) to tell me that i'm loved.

How many people will be sitting at their candlelit dinners tonight across from people they don't really like, never mind love?

^ LOL so true! I have seen so many couples out together and you can tell that they are not happy, but they still do the whole 'romantic dinner' thing out of some desire to either keep up appearances or maybe they are in denial..?

EDIT - reply was to videotalkers post

I do believe that it is a rip-off... flowers, chocolates etc shoot up in price..

I dont need to be given these things to prove how much my hubby loves me... I just know he does and tells me most days...

I agree completely. It's the monthly method for big business to con more money out of us.

What's next months?
