Beaten, abused, spat on while they save lives

is the caption on the front of the MEtro this morning

its speaking about how we treat the fire fighters in the UK

aapparantly firefighters are being attacked at least 40 times in one week and in some instanceseven being called out to false calls just so that people could dbeat them and threaten them

why on earth would anyone want to attack a firefighter especially as these firefighters do not patrol the streets looking for trouble these people are actaully called out for various reasons that include saving lives.

The biggest number of reports were up in the North West of England

Why - what is the point

This is another sad item that reports on the mindlessness of some of today's society. Trying to save people and being attacked whilst doing so.

I have recently heard of a case where a gang of drunken teens actually started a fire just so they could attack the crew responding to the call.

Who is to blame the parents? I don't think this is always the case. However I do wonder where the parents of some of the kids I see on the streets think they are at night.

Peer pressure? do what ever it takes to fit in with the in crowd! maybe. Or the fact that there are so few youth clubs about to give these kids something constructive to do.

The law? not the police but the court system that do not punish these yobs.

This list could go on a while. Until these kids are brought into line I for see a sad future. for decent people

Now you know one of the reasons why most of us on this forum live here in Tenerife.

i really don't get this kind of behavoir.....

I have to admit though I think when we were kids the firefighters were scared of us to...... thats only because anytime we saw them they got asked about a million questions and we all wanted to have a go in the fire engine!

its easy to blame the young poeple and parents but i want o speak out for the parents of any teenage children living in London

As a lot of you know i have 2 boys one of them is at that age 14 years old - i am one of those parents where i dont think kids should be out after dark and my son gets quite upset with me at times as i dont see the point of hangign around on the streets and i cant tell him to go to the touth centres as they have mostly all been scrapped - you will find a lot of youth clubs ect is areas lke Hackney but in Ealing we are lucky as we have a vast amount of green space with football courts and such but at the same time my Son gets a lot of abuse and flack from his so called mates beacuse i will not have him out after 7.00pm and he is only allowed to stay out later if he at the cinema or the bowling alley - its just hard to balance things out where you are allowing them the freedom to grow and to be themsleves and at the same time keeping an eye on him - but the thing that my son does not understand is that i trust him but its others i do not trust - i live 5 mins away from West Ealing where a Somalian youth got bashed on the back of the head with a blunt instrument all because he accidently sprayed an old man on the bus while he was speaking to his mate - as a parent i am responsible for my son but trying to bring him up in a good honest way is little hard without trying to imprison them

I do hope that i haev made sense as i know i like to babble on and sometimes my words all just blend in together i think my brain thinks quicker than my fingers can type

This is not new. I was in the fire service in the UK for 30 years, and we had bricks & stones thrown at us when I started. In those days we just turned the hoses on the kids, but its not acceptable in these 'politically correct' times.

Fatima I don't envy you one bit.On the other side of the coin you can pull the rope too tightly then they will rebel,I have been extremely lucky mine are older but they did try it on,but in those days they did'nt kick heads just footballs. When they are 14 they think they are an adult, most children today are well above their parents in height, but they are still your little boys.It does get better, perhaps when they hit 30 you will stop worrying, but I doubt it.
