One of the saddest stories on the news this morning was that Manchester City officials have warned that any fans who disrupt the minute's silence during this weekend's Manchester derby to commemorate the Munich air disaster of 1958 will be issued with a three-year ban from their Eastlands stadium.

Another nail in the coffin for the "beautiful" game.

If they can't keep quiet for sixty seconds then they should be banned, I personally don't like Man Utd but i would observe the minutes silence out of respect for the people that lost their lives, not just the footballers but every other life lost in the plane crash as well.

That the only way Man City fans can be guaranteed to show some respect is if they are blackmailed into doing so. Surely if said fans had any shred of decency they would do so anyway?

Following the debacle at Wembley on Wednesday evening when the period of silence was only 27 secs, due to the few morons who broke it, it is not surprising that the board at Man City have issued a warning to their fans. Sadly,I fear that the silence at United WILL be broken on Sunday by a few mindless idiots; I just hope that, with good stewarding and the help of the sophisticated CCTV they have at Old Trafford, any cuprits will be found, ejected and banned from football anywhere, never mind the Council Stadium at Eastlands.
