Information needed about hard drive recorders for my TV
hi everyone, question,
after seeing a Sky + box in action at xmas in the UK, I want something like the same As I live on a complex with a Sky feed what system would work so I could instant record, pause and the rest With the Sky box the menu comes up on the screen and is so simple to use, but would a hard drive box brought here allow me to record and pause my sky feed Clear as mud, I know

a simple vcr will allow you to record sky
but sky's pause and record system is sky+ only.
you could try a vivo kit or a dvd hrddisk recorder but i aint gonna guarentee it.

You can't.
Neither does the sky+ box.
Without going into the technical stuff, suffice to say that the device continues to record the program when you pause. It then takes up the program (which is recording) from where you left off. It ofcourse does lots of other clever things.
There is no cheap solution.
Here is a link to TiVo home site. Should help you get to grips with the technology.

Thanks AL,
not looking for a cheap solution only one that works. Maybe I should stick with what I have as it all seems very deep

I have an Airis HDD DVD Recorder. It pauses live TV and it's got a 160gb Hard Drive and USB input for you External HD if you wish. It cost 200€ from Martinez adeje.

I've got a couple of HDD recorders already but I'm interested in your last comment about the External Drive. Will it play VOB files straight of an External Drive?

if you just want an easy way to play vob's from a hard drive get a centronics media player plays vob, xvid, dvix and all the usual audio codecs and costs about 80 euros.
