What do the Tenerife Forum members think of serial complainers?

You know the type I mean. Those who always complain about every meal and about service of any sort. They do it to get refunds and discounts and it often works.

Don't get me wrong I think you should complain if things are bad but IMHO complaining to specifically get money off is fraud and at best theft.

What do you think? Good on them or bad show?

Ok, if something is wrong or you had bad service, by all means complain, but to do it just to make money - strange?
I can't imagine why people would do this if they really haven't had a bad experience.

Funnily enough, I was talking to a friend who knew someone just like this only the other day. So they do exist.

We all agree when something is wrong you should complain but some people Complain just to try to get money back ive given examples before when they got caught out when they told the wrong person they do it all the time to get a refund its just not on.

My sister used to get loads of those types when she worked at Pizza Express. It used to drive her mad because she was the most efficient, attentive and damn good waitress you could imagine! Substandard servings never left the kitchen when my sister was on duty because she'd throw it back at the chef before the customer even saw it - but still these people would complain and obviously only to avoid paying the bill

I've worked in a store for 29 years and have come across hundreds of them. I could write the book.

It's great when you catch one out and can put them in their place though. I had one guy that was demanding an item at a lower price because he said it had been in the wrong place. Had I not put the item on the shelf myself 5 minutes earlier he might have got away with it, but as I knew he was lying, I refused.

He exploded and started to shout, 'You have to sell me that at the lower price. I know my rights!' My polite reply was, 'Pardon me sir, but I don't have to sell you anything. I don't even have to let you in the door.' He turned and stormed out without another word.

Don't get me wrong. I am sweetness and light with normal customers. Punters like me, but when I get a chancer, the heels dig in and they get nothing.

We had a genuine complaint against Going Places / Air Tours about 18 months ago regarding a holiday in "cell block H" in Tenerife (not what we booked and paid for!). It took several months to sort out and the travel company eventually admitted liability. It was quite distressing having to keep writing letters and constantly repeating your reasons for making the claim - so much so that I did wonder how many people gave up before receiving any compensation - but maybe this is what these companies were hoping for.
Anyway we eventually got compensation which more than covered our extra costs, but at the end of the day, I wonder if all the hassle was really worth it.

By the way, we would never travel with these companies again, despite the compensation. Much better to have a hassle-free relaxing holiday!

You mite not have much option as the Thomas Cook group now own them including direct holidays ect ect the list is endless so not quite a monopoly but not far off .

My Daughter (who works on the Dover-Calais ferries) is convinced that it is the people that think they are rich, rather than the people that actually are, that are the worst offenders.
