Is private messaging on the forum really private or can moderators read (and abhort) anybody's private messages?

It's just that I sent a private message to another forum member and got some kind of error message that the forum could not send it. Because it also had my email address in the message (so we could connect away from the forum) I thought it may have caused a problem.

Well as a Mod I am not aware that he can so please don't speculate.

Anyone with access to passwords could theoretically could log in under that name and view messages. I have no idea who might have that information, and I suspect they would anyway have better things to do.

It is not normal in a system such as this to have access to passwords, hence the only way would be to reset the password which would then lead to the member not being able to login as their password would have changed.
