Packaging! A waste or what?

What packaging would YOU get rid of?

Why do tiny microchips come in such big boxes; for example

And all that card and plastic around veggies in the UK; what's that all for? Has no one ever heard of global warming

It makes my blood boil What unnecessary packaging would you get rid of?

Wow! Great minds eh? I brought this up in another thread. (Has anyone finished their Christmas shopping?)

It is disgusting how much packaging is used today. I have seen a tv programme where this was investigated and some producers said it would costs them more in damaged fruit/veg than in packaging if it were not used. They aslo did a trial shopping trip to explore the amount of packaging used on food products. Once the items were pushed through the till, the shopper asked if he could take all the unnecessary packaging off the food and leave it all behind in the store! The store manager agreed. All the packaging was left in a big pile in the store. If we all did this then the stores would have to put pressure on the producers to cut down on packaging. Maybe they just agreed to accept the waste packaging because the cameras were there.

BTW, Why does a ready meal have to be in a sealed plastic tray and also in a cardboard sleeve?
Also, polystyrene is a pet peeve of mine too!

I manage here without ANY packaging for fruit and veg.

I buy mine at the local co-operative, and there is no waxing or polishing or packaging of anything - and I take my linen shopping bag most of the time to put it all in.

I agree, boycott the big supermarkets especially in the UK

I couldn't agree more. It makes me livid. I particularly hate the tight-wrapped plastic covers on card backing ... the sort you get emery board nail files in. You break every nail trying to get things out of packaging, and then can't get into the bloody nail files to repair the damage!

And don't you just hate those sticky labels on fruit?

Maybe not a complete boycott, but some action such as was suggested in the tv prog. should do the trick.

when I'm in the UK, I just chuck everything (fruit and veg wise) in my basket, and let them sort it out at the checkout.

Those emery boards Janet!? I've given up filing my nails!

And that other bloody vacuum packed stuff:- ham/bacon/meat/cheese/anything!!

Grrrr!

BUY IT FRESH

And I still cannot work out why they package milk in containers with a little plastic ringpull that rips the cardboard so you've spilled all the millk before you ever get to use it.

Crafty ploy to get you to buy more milk!

A packaging manufacturer for milk cartons was invited to open one on tv to show how "easy" it is to do. He made a total mess of it and milk went everywhere! hehe!

Grrrr... you've all set me off now. It drives me nuts.

My big concern is all the plastic bottles (the small ones the children use for school/trips out etc). I re-use and re-fill mine over and over again.

I once caught site of the school dustbin, brimming with plastic bottles the kids had thrown that week. Heartbreaking.

In an ideal world I would want to go to a refill station for my washing powder, coffee, cereal, pasta etc. not have to buy all the packaging again.

My Mood:
ive asked a friend of mine to bring two things back from the uk with her on friday. they were only two wrestling figures and a wrestling outfit for my grandson, she rand me yesterday to tell me that they were in enormous boxes and there was no way she could fit them in her suitcase. i told her to take them out of the boxs and throw them away, cant believe why such big boxs are needed to wrap a mask and scalf up. rediculous.............
