The explosions are in the South, on the border with Malaysia....a few radical Muslims are wanting to take over the province, or just get the Thai Buddhists out.
I have both Thai Buddhist and Thai Muslim friends here. The Muslims actually have 'morals' are well educated, and will help you in any situation without trying to get money from you. The Buddhists however, will never tell the truth, have 'no morals' will try and rob you every time. They do not like to work, so basically don't. The Buddhist girls are on a mission to hook up with a 'Tourist' for money. Most of these 'working girls' have Thai husbands and boyfriends, and I can assure you they will, "love you long time" They tend to have children, so when the kids are 16 they can send them out to work... so the parents can sit at home all day drinking Thai rice whiskey. They are the laziest people I have ever come across. The Muslims on the other hand are not. They work, and are not out for a free ticket.
I'm renting a house off a Muslim family. Their daughter has been a good friend of ours for a few years. She works in an Irish Bar. We was talking the other day how tourists come up to her asking to take her out and pay her, and she has to explain she is not like the 'other' girls. Her parents have said to her they would obviously rather she married a Muslim, but under NO circumstances can she marry a Thai Buddhist. They would rather she married a Westerner than a Buddhist. That tells you something about the Buddhists!
Bombs are going off every day in the South. Its not near me, and there are no tourists down there...not Westerners anyway, Malay and Thai mainly.
