I think I have cracked my neck.

Hi all,

I woke up this morning, i was lying on my back wiv my head to the side, i stretched in that position and i heard something go crack and i got this allmighty pain. I don't know if i have cracked my neck or trapped a nerve. It hurts to turn my neck to the left, i can hardly turn it at all and my shoulder and arm hurt when i try to move my neck. It is verypainful, it took me an hour to get out of bed and i have been in tears since it happened. Has anyone got any tips on how i can get rid of this and get my neck back to normal?

Any advice would be very very apprecited

See a doctor. It is most probably not serious, a strained muscle or nerve but it is better not ignored as you could make it worse

Minx the same thing happened to me a couple of months ago. I went to the Adeje Clinic, they X rayed my neck and said it was compressed and that the muscles had locked up solid. They put me in one of those neck brace things and gave me a muscle relaxant injection and a prescription for Valium of all things. Apparently Valium also relaxes the muscles. I was in considerable pain for a few days. I would urge you to go and get some medical attention so you do not make it worse.

Get someone to drive you too a hospital, but lie down in the back of the car, you don't want to get a whip lash on the way.

In the meantime, whatever you do, don't try and do any exercises for your neck. lie down and rest, and try not to move too much.

most doctors tend to get impatient with such problems... it happens to a lot of people. i had the same problem a few months ago and was in agony for a week. my GP finally prescribed me some muscle relaxants which did the trick. unfortunately, you cannot get them over the counter. unlike what a lot of people believe, exercising the afflicted body part is the best cure, and keeping it warm. hope you will get better soon, i know what it`s like

What muscle relaxants did your gp prescribe? and how long did they take to work?

I have heard that the chemist in san eugenio next door to the movistar shop, is the only chemist that will give you anything over the counter without a prescription. Has anyone else herd of this or has anybody been and got something that would normally require a prescription.

Do you need a prescription for muscle relaxants?

Valium is trademark name for Diazepam, a sedative and muscle relaxant. It can be very useful, and is one of the most prescribed drugs in the world, but the dosage needs to be determined by a doctor. It can be dangerous if taken without medical supervision ... and can be addictive too. Please don't take it without a prescription.
