US health officials want Santa on a crash diet to help combat obesity.

Santas all across the U.S. have been ordered to lose weight. The image of a fat jolly santa is giving out the wrong signals to children. Health officials say they are battleing with children to try to get them toeat healthy and to cut down on obesety. So now they want slimmer santas.
So Santa has 6 weeks to lose a few stone and get slimmed down......any suggestions

It wasn't the coke that made him fat Janet, their contribution was to turn him red.

AND fat ..... they turned him from a small green elf into a red fatman, jolly too, thanks to Coke Cola.

Have a look HERE for the advertising / marketing behind the imagery, and HERE for the imagery itself.

Having said all that, this was all drawing on pre-existing imagery, of course, but it was with Coke Cola's Christmas advertising that the whole Santa imagery became standardized as a plump human rather than alternatively or simultaneously a green gnome and a red bishop!

That nation do come up trumps for ideas eh?

How about health officals target all the 'fat jolly parents' of the kids first, surely they would be more influencing to their children than Santa ?

My first thought exactly! Amazing what the power of advertising can do.....

If the government are so bothered, they need to design their own Father Christmas (Sorry I hate the name Santa) and plough as much money and inspiration into the advertising as Coca Cola did. Doubt it would catch on though.........

Well, for a nation that have the word gullible removed from their dictionaries ! It possibly could catch on

Santa is called St Nicholas here and is generally normal size and dressed in blue. On the 6th of December he brings chocolate for the children then returns on Christmas Eve with presents (this is known as Nicholas Day)

The story behind St Nicholas is that he lived in Constantinople many centuries ago there were two girls who were christians but their father was Muslim. He wanted them to marry two men of his choice but they wanted to marry christians. So he locked them in a room until they could pay their own dowry (which of course was impossible.) St Nicholas dropped the money down the chimney so they could buy their way to freedom!!!
