Probably not. Needing to defrag doesn't make noises. It may be a hardware problem. If your hard drive is making a regular blip noise SWITCH YOUR PC OFF or diable that HDD if you have more than one.

scratchy noises

hi, betty boo, i had the same problem with a pc that i bought from pc world back in 2001, when i rang pc world tech. dept. He told me that it was a problem with the mouse, but that it was inside the computer itself. He said that this was not covered under the warrenty and that i would have to fix it myself. So i will give you the advise that he gave to me. In his words not mine, " disconnect the power supply, disconnect all leads, make sure the moniter is switched off, close all doors and windows, put any small children in the bedroom, open up the back of the computer and put some cheese in................ and do you know what, it bloody worked

Quite possibly one of the cooling fans inside that is covered with dust and has got out of balance, this then wears the fan bearings out and it makes a noise.

Or worst case, the Hard Disk is on its way out. But if thats the case, then by now you probably won't have a computer to be able to read this post

Actually, now you mention it, yes... that might be it. Mine went a few weeks ago and I had to go all the way into Cristianos to get one in the end. Couldn't buy it without a heatsink either, however it was only 12€ from the place next door bu one to 3C computers and the thermal paste wasn't expensive either.

It's all that Calima dust that does it you know What with those and the siroccos I'm surprised anything survives over here!

Theres also a new shop opened in Chafiras on the road behind the Mercadona. Called K+. Seem to have some reasonable prices for spare parts.

Cheers for that. I don't tend to go as far as chafiras... there's a place in Guia and one in San Juan... however SOMETIMES they don't have what you need
