Cuppy Cake,
I used to hate olives too until we came to Tenerife.
On our first visit to Los Cristianos eleven years ago, we found a very nice restaurant called the Saint Louis. We sat at the bar and after the waiter had served our drinks, he brought a plate of olives for us to eat. We didn't like to tell him that we did not like them and out of politeness we picked up an olive each and placed them in our mouths.
The taste was revolting, but with the aid of our drinks, we managed to swallow them. There was still another 10 or so on the plate and we could not bring ourselves to have another. Instead, I decided to have a cigarette and luckily there was only one in the packet. So, every now and again, I would pick an olive up, pretend to put it in my mouth, but put it in the empty cigarette packet.
After they were all safely in the packet, I went outside and put the packet containing the olives in a rubbish bin. I returned to the bar and we ordered more drinks.
The waiter looked at the plate and gave us a strange look amd asked if we had enjoyed the olives. "They were lovely" Paula replied and after the waiter had served our drinks, he presented us with another plate of olives. This time, there was no escape as the waiter stood near to us. We each gingerly picked an olive up and put them in our mouths. Paula washed hers down with her Vodka.
So not to offend the waiter, I decided to eat mine rather than swallow it and began to chew when I crunched on something hard. It was the stone

It then dawned on me why the waiter had given us a strange look. The plate that he picked up after our first helping didn't have the stones from the olives on it !!
I took the stone from my mouth and put it on the edge of the plate glancing at the waiter (who was smiling) as I did so. I picked another olive up and ate it and again placed the stone on the edge of the plate. I continued to eat the olives until they were all gone. We then drank up and left.
A couple of nights later, we returned to the restaurant for a drink and another plate of olives

But I had the taste for them now and I love to eat them whilst having a pint. Paula, however, can't stand them but loves the drink
I wonder what the waiter thought when he picked that plate up. Do you think he was suspicious?
