On a different note to walking dogs in morning... what about late at night?
I have just walked my dog for his last little walk around the block and wondered how safe do people feel when walking their dog late at night here in Tenerife.
Where I live we have no street lights so it is pitch black, seriously not seeing your steps infront of you never mind anything else!!!
I walk my dog each and everynight, and although I am uncomfortable with walking around in such darkness I am 'ok' about doing it as my dog needs his walk. ( I think this is a man's job, but I have no man!!)
Am I mad? I walk on a lonely stretch of pathway with only the sea infront of me, rarely any people. What is more important, my safety or my dog's walk??
GL your own saftey is paramount, my husband wont let me go out after dark with our dog but like you say you are on your own, but cant you give him a good walk while its still light and then just a quick wee later in the front where you live???

Yes I could do, and I have thought about this, but he loves that walk and it wasnt too bad before the clocks went back.
We take him out anyway for his long walk about 6 - 7, but as he is still so young I like to take him out for a last walk so I have no mess in the house!!

I prefer walking my dog at night as it is a lot cooler and it allows him a routine of settling down before bed time.
Regarding the safety issue:- I feel safer here than in the UK any time of day or night.

Don't get complacent though... I feel safe too, but if I don't know an area I have my wits about me.

That would have been my reply Kirsty. Although we are probably a lot safer walking at night here than in the UK we can sometimes feel too safe and become complacent.
GL you could always carry a baseball bat with you just for extra security
