Do the Tenerife Forum members think the Queen should abdicate?

I was watching the state opening of parliament today, not from choice,my mother the Royalist wanted to.With all the pomp and ceremony at Westminster this diminutive old lady, wearing a heavy crown and train looked tired and drawn.Should the Queen abdicate in view of her age and have a hard earned rest,or carry on till she drops.?

I personally think she should retire,Prince Charles as we all know is a little, what shall I say.excentric, but he has been schooled in the rigours of kingship,William is too inexperienced as we all can see by his antics,he has a lot more growing up to do.

She is completely driven by tradition and duty so I doubt that she would ever consider it. Add to that the fact that her generation and that of her parents were completely aghast and critical of her uncle for abdicating she would look hypocritical.

The vows a Monarch takes at their Coronation are until death.

My Mood:
I agree, I think she should retire, but not overly keen on Prince Charles being King, but beggars cant be choosers!!!!

I am with Daverock on this one. i do not think she would even consider it and there is no reason at all for her to do so. If she finds the duties too hard going she can delegate but the job is for life. When you look at the rest of the family I think she is the one that carries the most respect so no reason she should not keep at it another 20years or so

That would be something for the people to decide as Britain is a constitutional monarchy but I doubt the people will go for that for a while yet. Even the australians voted to keep the monarchy!!!!!

Dave times change look at the Royals and divorce,3 out of the Queens 4 have done divorce, she looked so tired,I know they live a priviledged life, but she drags herself round on Royal visits, she must be tired, can you imagine all that hand shaking and and all you want to do is take your shoes off and have a gin.She has aquitted herself in an exempliary way,she deserves to sit down and enjoy the rest of what time she has got.I don't think the phrase "well done thou good and faithful servant " is any use when you are in your box.

I do not think she would abdicate. She took holy vows to do the job. As with other views on religious subjects people who do not believe find it hard to accept how people who do believe think. She is also head of the church and personally disaproves of divorce. That is why she talked about having a "horrible year" (forget the Latin translation) when here family were going through all those personal problems. Charles is free now as a widower but as a divorced person could not have taken up his mums mantle if it had fallen to him at this time there would have been a crises. I think it is better if she maintains the Status Quo for the time being.

Don't interrupt me when I'm ignoring you!

I'd love to see things from your point of view but I can't get my head that far up my bum.
