Do you believe in Life after Death?

Folowing on from a heavy conversation in the pub last night with friends I thought it would be interesting to discuss this here.

I believe in a sort of re-incarnation. I think that our essential spirit passes into some other life form as energy cannot be destroyed only transformed. I do not however believe that that is any conscious link between one life form and the next. For that reason IMHO as far as our own consciousness goes when you die that is it.

What are your thoughts on this subject?

No I don't believe there is anything beyond the grave. But I do respect other peoples' beliefs.

No. It's a romantic thought that there might be something else, but I think when you die there is absolutely nothing. To suggest that an "energy" is passed on implies that life is more than just a chemical reaction, which I don't think it is. When I die, all those little chemical impulses in my brain will just stop and my body will rot and that's it

Absolutely without question. I think that we have to respect them as no-one is in a position to prove anything for or against.

The only thing I'd maybe differ from is whether that energy would necessarily be transformed into another "life form". But other than that, my beliefs exactly.

The confusing thing to consider is that if reincarnation takes place then it is not restrained by time, as time is a human concept. Therefore we are equally likely to be reincarnated into the past as we are into the future... and equally likely to be reincarnated into the present. Just think, we could all be reincarnations of each other

That would actually make things fair as Bill Gates would necessarily at some point live a life as a homeless person and babies with horrible illnesses would at some point reincarnate as royalty or supermodels, murderers would eventually live the lives of their victims, etc...

Ooh, could I just have explained "God" ??

For those that have responded, can I ask how you would live your lives differently if the opposite of what you now believe was known to happen?
